Elizabeth “Betsy” Foster was born ca 1755 in Hanover County, Virginia the child of Richard Foster and Sarah “Sally” (Fox?) She died in Shiloh Township, Jefferson County, Illinois at a time unknown.

She married twice (1) ca 1769 to Mr. Tyler who was born ca 1745 in Virginia and died ca 1774 in Hanover County, Virginia (2) ca 1775 Louisa County, Virginia to John Johnson, son of Benjamin and Mary Matlock Johnson and who was born ca 1743 Hanover County, Virginia and died in between 1799 and 1805

Elizabeth's first husband, Mr. Tyler died about the same time that John Johnson’s first wife, Hanna Matlock Johnson died. John’s children were: Molly born ca 1770 (married Crosby Foster); William born ca 1772 (married Betsy Golden); and Benjamin born ca 1774 and died about the same time that his mother died.

Both Elizabeth and John were left with small children to raise.
John and Elizabeth raised all of the children together; John’s two; Elizabeth’s three and their four. They lived in Louisa County, Virginia until the death of John Johnson in ca 1805.

Elizabeth Johnson’s sons, Lewis and John Johnson were Methodist Circuit Riders. They lived in Sumner County, Tennessee until 1810 when the Lewis Johnsons and his mother Elizabeth Foster Johnson removed to Jefferson County, Illinois and settled in Shiloh Township and build a house and a Methodist Church.
